Frosted Designs Tuesday Card Sketch #13

Vintage Card
Welcome to another Frosted Designs Card Sketch Challenge!  I hope you play along with us and link your card at Frosted Designs soon!  The Oh, So Talented Jenny Evans created another fabulous sketch for us this week!  It can take you in lots of directions depending on your mood or style.

Frosted Designs Card Sketch Challenge - Sketch by Jenny Evans
The paper that I wanted to use pushed me in a vintage-y direction. It is one of the new CTMH B & T packets that just came out this month.  I fussy cut the big flower and slightly curled the petals. This was my jumping off point and everything else just fell into place using Jenny's sketch.

Mini Envelope Tucked Behind the Flower
The seam binding was colored with an Outdoor Denim marker to match the paper's dark blue shade.  Behind the ribbon and middle cardstock panel I used a piece of paper from the CTMH Victory packet which I stamped with my favorite background stamp from the Universal Backgrounds set. The Desert Sand and Outdoor Denim cardstock were also stamped with a background stamp from the same set. I like the tone on tone look because it adds depth without being distracting.

Can I Stamp On Battery Operated Candles?

Stamped Images On Battery Operated Candles
This was a mystery to me and the only way to find out was to try it... and it worked!   I wanted to use a new stamp set for some Spring decor and longed to decorate some of my boring 'fake' candles. (We can no longer burn candles in our house because of asthmatic kids.) "Stamping" on regular candles has always been a sort of 'wow' kind of thing to show new people how to do. I thought it might be fun to show people that they may be able to try this on their battery operated candles, as well. These candles came from Costco. Probably other candles have a similar waxy coating, just be aware that your results may vary depending on the fake candle.  Real wax candles should work just fine. :-)
Image From CTMH My Peeps Stamp Set On Battery Operated Votive Candles
Because I wasn't sure whether it would work, I decided to try on a votive candle first.  I used black ink with the bunny peep image pictured above.  After seeing it would work, I tried the Cotton Candy ink with no problems.
Stamped Image On White Tissue Paper
In retrospect, I would have colored the Springtime image if I had thought of it.  But of course that occurred to me after melting it to the candle! Or stamping it in a different color ink that is more springy would also be cute.
Stamped Image Trimmed Closely With Micro-Tip Scissors
The main difference between the regular candles that I have used in the past and the battery operated ones was that I had to use the wax paper twice on some of the images.  Some were fine with just one melting, though.

Here is a quick video tutorial:

Supplies:
Stamps: CTMH My Peeps B1402
Ink: CTMH Black and Cotton Candy

My Peeps - Wreath/Candle Ring Tutorial

Peeps Stamp From CTMH My Peeps Set
 *** Lots of pictures ***

I have never eaten a Peep because I prefer to get my empty calories from chocolate.  But, I do think they are very cute.  When I saw this stamp set, I knew immediately that I wanted to make the adorable bunny peeps into a wreath.  Because it was going to take a lot of peeps to go around even a smallish circle, I decided to try to figure out how to cut the shape with my Silhouette Cameo.  It was easy! The free software that comes with the machine is very intuitive to figure out. I haven't had time to read the manual, yet I still managed to get a shape that fit the stamped image very well, even if I say so myself. Lol.
Candle Ring Made With Shapes Cut With Cameo
The Cameo cut out lots and lots of Peeps in Bubblegum, (retired) Sunny Yellow, and Sky cardstock.  While that was happening, it seemed like a good time to pull out the Martha Stewart Large Circle Cutter and figure out what size wreath to cut.
A six inch diameter with a four inch opening is what I settled upon. Then I stamped about 30 of the Peep shapes using black ink.
Colonial White Cardstock 6" Wreath Shape
The picture below shows a trial run of the placement to make sure the bunnies would fit properly with the pillar candle I stamped.
Easter Eggs Stamped On Tissue Paper and Colored With Pencils
The bunnies were glued onto the cardstock with Tombow Mono Multi Liquid Glue.  Here they are before I spritzed them with Create-A-Shade Pearl Paint mixed with water.

I thought it would be cute to have them rest on a layer of Easter grass.  The picture below shows the back of the wreath as more glue is being applied.

I smooshed a bunch of grass into the glue and gave it a couple of minutes to dry.  It didn't take much glue to get the grass to stick.
Backside of Wreath With Easter Grass Adhered
"happy easter to my peeps happy easter to my peeps" is the sentiment on the stamp that comes with the set.  I thought it would make a fun banner across the center of the wreath. I used yellow Fun Flock on a couple of the Peeps to anchor the banner.
Pearl Painted Peeps Around Outside of Wreath
To keep it as a candle-ring, I would have skipped the banner and ribbon on the back from which to hang it.  This was a very easy and fairly quick project once the die cut was drawn. :-)

Fun Flocked Peep
Any fun shape can easily be turned into a wreath or candle-ring for any decor or occasion. It will be something that I come back to again because it is very inexpensive and adds a nice change to my home's decorations.

Thank you for visiting my blog.  Have a fabulous day!

Rainbow Flower Rosette Card

Edited on 6/21/2012 - Reposted after having been removed for publication.
Rosettes Made From EK Success Parisian Edge Punch
Flowers are one of my all time favorite embellishments to use on, well, just about everything!  The accordion folded rosettes are very simple to make and with this particular punch they fall into the super fast category as well.  Because of how the punch is designed, no scoring board is necessary.  It is easy to align the holes up and fold them free hand.

Stamped Sentiment From CTMH's Art Philosophy Collection
The sentiment is layered on a 2" scallop punch black circle. The rosettes would also look pretty layered on a scallop circle. All of the flowers have CTMH Pearl Opaques Adhesive Gems. Two of the smaller sized pearls were added as accents to the sentiment flower.  I love these little pearls.  The stems and leaves were cut freehand from CTMH Sonoma paper.  That cute little felt bird has been in my stash for over a year, it was with the Valentine's stuff on clearance at Michael's.

Thank you for visiting my blog today on the last day of "Rainbow Week"! I hope you enjoy many rainbows in your lifetime.

Rainbow Ribbon Card

This card is very flat and therefore can be easily mailed.  I wanted to make something with dimension, but not with a lot of bulk.  This clean and simple rainbow-inspired card was an easy one to make.  I like the clean lines of it and hope that my dd2 likes it when she receives it.
MS Ribbon Threader Edge Punch
All of the ribbons came from Michael's.  Some of them are probably ten years old! They were easy to thread through the punched holes because they are quite thin.

Glossy Rainbow

White Glossy Cardstock  Stamped and Inked for Rainbow Background
Stamping on glossy cardstock with Versamark ink, embossing, and then coloring it is one of my favorite techniques. On this card I used different sponges and daubers to see what kinds of effects would be achieved in making this rainbow inspired card.  The Spellbinders diecuts were sitting in my "Black Scraps" drawer and seemed perfect to place on top.  The sentiment had been stamped a long time ago and I am not sure from which set it came.

CTMH Opaque Pearl Adhesive Gems Embellish the Flower Ribbon and Spellbinders Diecuts
The background was stamped several times with one of the Love Life stamps from CTMH.  I purposely left unstamped spaces because I wanted the texture of the embossing to be showcased.

Rainbow Bears

Rainbows, teddy bears, and balloons make such a happy combination!  If they arrive all together in an envelope, maybe it will feel like receiving a party in the mail?  I must have been channeling my inner child on this one. :-)  It reminds me of all those bright Lisa Frank stickers that I used to love.

Stamped Sentiment from CTMH Art Philosophuy Collection
Those cute little red heart pearls were on clearance last year from Michael's after Valentine's Day.  My goal this week is to use things that I have on hand.  Some of the things in my stash are almost vintage, I've had them for so long!
For example, the punches I used are ones I have had for many years.  The bear punch is one of the first Marvy punches that I purchased in the mid 1990's.  Mickey Mouse is from All Night Media. I thought he would make a cute balloon.  Both of these shapes were used to punch out a black piece of paper to work as a "shadow" underneath the colored paper on top. I used scraps of patterned paper for the bears and cardstock for the Mickey balloons.  The green and purple bakers twine was made from the white CTMH baker's twine and colored with Copic markers. The red twine came from Amazon.com and is a lot thinner than the other colors.  All the rest came from CTMH.

Banner will flatten for mailing
After punching a hole for each balloon string, I threaded each of them to the back and taped them with Scotch tape. I did not want the recipient to see my handiwork inside the card, so the front panel was adhered to the cardstock base.

Thanks for visiting my blog during my rainbow week theme.

Rainbow Week

Edited on 6/21/2012 - Reposted after having been removed for publication.
EK Success Bracket Edge Punch Used For Base

Rainbows as a design element have been a favorite of mine for decades! This week I thought it would be fun to challenge myself to use scraps that have been multiplying accumulating, to make cards with rainbows as the theme. The thought started when I realized that one of my most frequently repinned pieces on Pinterest is this rainbow layout that I made last September.  Here is the original post.

I made this card using strips cut with the edge punch and then adhering them in ROY G. BIV order.  Pretty fast and easy! Click on the photo to see more detail of the punched shape.
Sentiment From CTMH Art Philosophy Collection
Cardstock is CTMH.  There is one piece of textured cs that is either CTMH or SU!.  Black ink, Stamp and Sparkles are all CTMH.

Shabby Chic Card

Spellbinders Label Twenty - Four Layer Center Focal
If you are a fan of Shabby Chic, you might like today's card.  There are two background layers on the card base, two different ribbons, two paper strips and then the four layer center!  Add some pearls, layered butterflies, studs and a charm along with lots of distressing and you have a vintage-y card.
CTMH Flutter Paper Shape Colored With Twilight Marker Layered Over a Studio Calico Chipboard Butterfly
I needed to make a card that can be mailed in a regular envelope, but I didn't want to sacrifice beauty for functionality.  The butterfly pictured above will flatten out because only the center section is adhered to the chipboard butterfly.  With the little pearls running through the center, it is the deepest component on the entire card, but will still easily slide into an envelope.
CTMH  Metal Timeless Charm
Sewing on cards and layouts always adds another fun dimension to the finished product.  I sewed the paper strip on the left-hand side of the card and the strip running down the middle.  The ribbon and ribbon/lace were adhered with Tombow Monoadhesive.
5 x 7 Card
This is the first time that I had used this set of stamps from Just Rite.  I love how they fit perfectly with the Spellbinders die templates!  They are cling stamps and worked just great on my CTMH Acrylix Blocks.

Paper: CTMH: Florentine B & T patterned paper, Vanilla Cream, Twilight and Colonial White cardstock

Maracas Turned Into Barbells - aka - A Three Year Old Invents Exercise Equipment

12 x 12 Traditional Layout
I recently found these photos in a box that had hurriedly been packed when our basement flooded a couple of years ago.  It had a bunch of different and somewhat non-related items in it. Most of the things were to be scanned.  I hate scanning, so when I came across these, I quickly switched gears to scrapbook instead!

Silhouette Cameo Title Using Print and Cut Features
Die-cuts are so much fun to use!  On this layout, I used a variety of different sources for die-cutting.  The flowers are a combination of purchased flowers from Close To My Heart, (now retired) some Silhouette Cameo cuts, (embossed with Sizzix folders) and a Stampin' Up! punch.

Stamping the date on the layout in Sunflower ink
There is one small strip of patterned paper with four words on it from Prima Marketing's Pixie Glen collection and one 1/4" by 12" piece of patterned paper (Elemental by CTMH) on the layout. Everything else is plain cardstock. The inks match the cardstock colors of Heavenly Blue and Sunflower. I also used black ink and white cardstock.
Working Hard!
The die-cuts and title were all sprayed with a Create-a-Shade pearl paint and water mixture. The big flower in the bottom left corner was also sprayed with Perfect Pearls.

Card Sketch by Jenny Evans for Frosted Designs
With this sketch, I decided to not include a sentiment.  I substituted a butterfly from CTMH's pack of Flutter Shapes.  This was inked with Bamboo and Baby Pink dye inks from CTMH.

Baby Pink Card Base Punched With MS Loops Edge and Corner Punch
The side strip of paper and little flags at the top were cut from Prima Marketing's Pixie Glen Collection.  There are lots of CTMH Opaque Pearl Gems, Bitty Sparkles and a Flourish to add some glitz and glam.  I love the pink and black color combination.  Sparkles and pearls always seem to go with that combination because it is such a feminine look.

Journaling on layout printed on cardstock
Here are some close-up pictures of my project using the theme of Love, which totally fits with my secret phrase word: Romance! My parents were married in 1964 and my father died in 1988. This is a simple layout honoring their time together.

Love to faults is always blind, always is to joy inclined. Lawless, winged, and unconfined, and breaks all chains from every mind.    William Shakespeare
This quote was printed on my regular printer using the 'legal size' paper setting onto a 12" strip of paper.

Thank you for visiting my blog today!  All the best to you.
