Reminder Board For Child

Office supply stores are one of my favorite places to visit; on the list just under bookstores.  Back-to-School-Time is also one of my favorites because all of the school supplies are on sale.  I think a lot of paper-crafters share similar feelings.  Which brings me to the challenge from Frosted Designs this week: Office Supplies. Whoo hoo!  I love it!

Three Pieces of Cardboard Packaging To Be Glued Together For Base

For the challenge, I knew I wanted to use shipping tags and binder clips.  I also knew that I was becoming weary of reminding my dd every single day to do some simple things.  It seemed a Reminder Chart was in order.  

The greatest thing about this project is that I used things on hand and things that would normally have been thrown into the recycling bin.

Cricut Art Philosophy Negative Cut Sheet 

After painting the cardboard base with acrylic paint, I adhered a piece of cardstock that was a leftover from a Cricut heart-cutting project that had been misted with pearl paint and water.

Binder Clips To Be Covered With Washi and Tissue Tape

On each side of the chart there are cute tape covered binder clips to hold the decorated shipping tags with the various reminders printed on them.

The tags are regular manilla painted with Tattered Angels Tutti Fruiti Glimmer Mist.  After they dried I ran them through the printer and added washi/tissue tape to both ends.

My seven year old is the princess of re-purposing. She noticed that the double-sided tape dispenser was empty and that some of the washi tape was the same size as the used-up tape.  She suggested that I re-use the dispenser.  What a great idea! See it pictured below.

The last addition to the board was ribbon.  The one used for hanging came from a gift and the other little ones are from my stash.

She has had this in her room for a couple of days and it has helped a little bit.  Now instead of asking her if she did each of the individual things, I ask her if she did the things on the board.  It is progress!  Once these items are habits, we can change the tags to new things.

This is my last Frosted Designs Challenge as a Design Team member.  When the card challenges ceased, I opted to remain for my term as a Friday team member.  I love the women who are part of Frosted Designs.  They are talented, kind and very sharing.  I will miss being a part of this amazing group, but am excited to continue working on other projects.  Speaking of which, if you get a chance, please visit Faithbooking For All for this week's Faithbooking Friday post.

Dresses Cut From Cricut Artiste Cartridge

On this layout, I used white baker's twine to string a clothesline. I love these cute little clothespins! It was nice to finally be able to use them, after having stored them for years.  Yellow baker's twine was wrapped around the bottom of the picture with a piece of yellow hemp.  I used three different alphabets for the title.  A little bit of journaling is on the half-circle/wheel.

Recipe Stand Holds 4 x 6 Inch Recipe Cards

When I saw this photo stand, over a year ago, I knew that it would make a perfect recipe card holder and stand.  Extra sleeves can be purchased and it is easy to add them to the stand.  This seemed like the perfect gift for anyone who likes to cook or is just starting out on their cooking journey.  It was fortuitous that Frosted Designs was having a "no cardstock" challenge this week because I need to be pushed out of my cardstock-is-part-of-everything-I-do-zone.

The easy to assemble display stand is about a foot tall, so it can sit on the kitchen counter and fits under a cabinet.  I cut three layers of Florentine B & T with the Cricut at varying sizes.  Because of this, the holes do not align.  That did not matter because the other layers covered the holes, except for the top layer.  I strategically placed the "Family" and the crocheted flowers to cover them.  Once all the layers were together, I punched new holes using one of the plastic photo/recipe sleeves to align them properly.

Frosted Designs Final Card Sketch Challenge

Frosted Designs Card Challenge #21 - Card Three

Elemental Complements Dimensional Elements (chipboard circles) From CTMH

Ann's sketch was so much fun to follow that I wanted to make several cards using it.  This one most closely follows the sketch and was the fastest to make.  It uses some fun patterned paper, coordinating chipboard shapes, bakers twine, cardstock and one tiny stamped image.

I used a scallop edge punch on the cardstock to frame the center focal point.  The baker's twine from CTMH matches it perfectly, so I ran a piece on both the top and bottom strips.

The chipboard (Dimensional Elements) isn't very thick, so this will easily fit into an envelope.  The card is 5 1/2" square.  The patterned paper is the heavier weight paper that CTMH introduced last summer, so I used it for the card base.  However, because it is double sided, I placed a blank sheet of cardstock inside for a message.

Day 2 of Frosted Designs Card Challenge #21

Yesterday was the reveal day for the new Frosted Designs card sketch challenge.  I loved Ann's sketch so much that it was impossible to make just one card!  On this version, you can see I swapped out the center circle for an awesome stamped star. This set is retired from CTMH, but it has great images that emboss really well, so I am glad to have it in my collection.  Both the red and blue stars were heat embossed after stamping with Versamark ink. The white stars were cut with the Cricut.  All papers are from CTMH.  The red tinsel ribbon is from Michael's.

Frosted Designs Card Sketch Challenge #21

Hello!  Thank you for visiting today!  The very talented Ann Bacon has created another wonderful sketch for us to follow at Frosted Designs.  I love it so much that I will share two more cards following this sketch later this week!  Our sponsor for this week's challenge is Jillian Vance Design.  Please link up your take on the sketch which will make you eligible for the prize drawing at Frosted Designs.

As you can see, I shrank the center circle to make a 'water' card.  Making this version of a water card was very easy to do because I used one of the cards from CTMH's Sweet Surprises Card Kit.  It looks like this in kit form:

Normally, you would put candy or some other small items in the cup.  Instead, I filled one of the cups with aloe vera gel mixed with blue food coloring.  Years ago, I used hair gel in a baggie with similar (flatter) results.

The card base is a diecut kraft cardstock square shape with a pretty cut outline on the overlapping flap.  Part of the base was spritzed with Aquamarine Glimmer Mist. I then placed strips of different colored blue CTMH cardstock that were cut with Fiskar's Wave scissors. On top of these, I placed American Crafts Glitter Tape and a wavy glitter tape from Michael's Recollection's line.

This card was oriented with the flap on the bottom to sort of mimic a sandy underwater beach. This part of the card was not spritzed with Glimmer Mist. I threaded canvas twill through the pre-punched flap and knotted it.  The ferns were made using Martha Stewart's clay that I had mixed with CTMH's Sweet Leaf re-inker and molded in one of her silicon molds.

Frosted Designs Tuesday Card Sketch #16

Kraft Cardstock Base Stamped and Embossed With White

Welcome to another Frosted Design's Sketch Challenge!  We are using another awesome sketch from Ann Bacon.  In fact, I had so much with it that I made two cards this time!

I used the same SU! background stamp for the base and the first layer.  Each was stamped with Versamark and then embossed with white powder. I used a couple of pieces of linen fabric, an ephemera rub-on from 7 Gypsies, a digital House of 3 postcard and a kraft/Spellbinders die to make the cluster with a red bottlecap as the main accent.

The second card is sort of a kitschy take on the sketch.  The layered pattern papers are from House of 3/Pink Paislee's Daily Junque line. The CTMH Twilight cardstock tag was cut using the Cricut Art Philosophy.

The photo below shows the center of the chipboard piece backed with yellow cardstock and adhered to the tag. I wanted a sort of tone on tone affect with the two blues because the rest of the paper is so busy all around that element.

Vintage Sewing Machine Digital Stamp Colored With Copic Markers

I turned the sketch 90 degrees and framed the image with a paper doily that I made from a photo-corner punch.  After creating the die-cut I spritzed with Studio Calico's Clay Mister Huey and added a bunch of little CTMH pearl adhesives. The papers behind the image are from Prima Marketing and Kaiser Craft.

There are a lot of layers in this card!  It is a bold image but I wanted to soften it because of the era of the treadle machines.  I chose soft colors for the quilt and then matched the papers to fit.  It would have been smarter to find papers first and then color, but I got carried away coloring so I forgot my plan!

Create your own doilies for scrapbook layouts and cardmaking out of any paper in your stash!

Here is a tutorial video showing a variety of corner punches and the results of punching the same size circle with the various punches that are pictured below. The Martha Stewart Topiary Corner Punch is the one used for the instructional part of the video.

 I don't have the SU! Corner Punches posted here because I am uncertain of their names. I have had them for many years and do not know whether or not they are still available.  Please leave me a comment to let me know if you try this.  :-)  If you try this technique with any corner punches that are not posted here, I would love to see your results!

Here is an example of how I used the Spider Web doily.  The center of it was cut out using the MS Large Circle cutter after punching the shape around the perimeter of the circle.

Written instructions:
Flip the corner punch over to see where to line up the punch. The picture at the very top of the post shows the back side lined up near the edge of the paper. Punch around the edge of the circle slightly overlapping the previous punched area.  If your punching doesn't end up exactly matched up, you can place an embellishment at that spot. :-)
If you are mathematically inclined, you could measure the perimeter of the circle and figure out whether the punch is the correct size to end up exactly evenly given the circumference to punch size ratio.  Punches vary in size and everyone punches a little differently, so I have no specific guidelines for this.  Just a little observation though, the smaller the circle, the more noticeable a gap may be.
