Floral Stamp Three Ways

Large image stamps are wonderful for cards, art journals, and scrapbook layouts. The floral stamp from the Sweet as Honey Hero Arts set measures about 6.5" from the base of the stem to the top leaf. Stamping the image and heat embossing it on different types of paper allowed for exploring three different ways to use it on hand-created cards.

The first image, on the left, uses white embossing powder over white pigment ink on 100 lb cardstock. After the paper cooled, I ink-blended the embossed image with Catherine Pooler inks in cool colors. Wipe off the ink from the white embossed areas to make the colors shine. The middle image is stamped with Versamark without wiping off the leftover white ink and embossed with clear powder onto a heavy green cardstock.

The pink image is also heat embossed with white ink and white powder. This time it is on watercolor paper. It is easy to watercolor with embossed images because the embossing helps hold the watercolor inside the design. Sometimes, I audition stamped images onto backgrounds before deciding how to use them.

The picture above shows one of the images cut into two pieces and placed on an ink-blended background. And the picture below shows the intact image placed on a stenciled/ink-blended background. This was too busy for my liking.

Ultimately, I layered the image on a small solid panel placed over a heat-embossed background which has another piece of dark cardstock placed underneath and to one side of the front panel. The same dark green cardstock was used for the sentiment. The butterflies, sentiment, and background all use gold heat embossing powder. This is a 6-inch square card.

The 4.25" x 5.5" card, pictured below, also uses a gold embossed butterfly and sentiment. The sentiment is stamped onto the ink-blended panel. This is the same panel that was auditioned (and rejected,) above.

The panel adheres to a top-folding card base and the corners are rounded with a punch. Rounded corners soften the card. This design element is particularly welcome on a sympathy card.

The last card is also a 6-inch square card and is layered very similarly to the other square card. The butterflies are from the New Days Butterflies stamp set and colored with Copic markers. They add a bit of beauty to all of the cards.

Avonlea Cards - August Bonus Projects

CTMH Avonlea B & T Paper

The three cards on this page all used patterned paper from the Avonlea collection.  The top two are 6 x 6 square cards and the bottom one is a standard 5 1/2" x 4 1/4" card.  The top one has a Parlor Velvet Rub-On for a little added texture, along with pieces of Black Tulle Ribbon and Slate Satin Polka Dot Ribbon.  The sentiment comes from the Words of Comfort set.

Sentiment is from CTMH Card Chatter - Sympathy Set

I love how simple this card is, but it still has a lot of character.  The sentiment was stamped on a shape cut with the Art Philosophy cartridge and layered over progressively larger shapes.  A couple of Mocha Opaques anchor the sides of the layered labels. The Slate Polka Dot Ribbon adds an elegant touch. Inside the card is a strip of patterned paper adhered to the edge.  The front of the card was cut a little smaller so that the inside paper could be seen peeking out.

Liquid Glass Turns Matte Finishes to Glossy

 The birthday card has pops of bright, stamped images.  Honey ink was used with the images from the Artiste Collection.  The two banners were then covered with Liquid Glass to make shiny embellishments for the card.  All of the design elements were popped off the page using foam tape.

Paper Pieced Cupcake

Even though there is a cupcake cut file on the Artiste cartridge, I hand cut it because I wanted to paper-piece it. The 'sprinkles' on the cupcake are Mocha Opaques Adhesive Gems.

Four Layer Six Inch Square Card

Today's card is another one made from an intricate cut using the Cricut. It looks so impressive, but there is very little work involved!  The bottom Outdoor Denim shape is the one pictured  in the Font Layer box on page 66 of the Art Philosophy booklet, cut at 6 inches.  On top of that is the inside part of the Decorative Layer also on page 66.  It, too, is cut from Outdoor Denim cardstock.  The Daisy White shape on the top is the Oval 5 shape on page 62.  It was then stamped and edge inked with Outdoor Denim ink.

The pretty wired organza ribbon is from my stash.  I topped it with a Rhinestone Designer Brad.  The additional bling on the card comes from Clear Sparkles.  I love how they add another layer of interest to the card.

Wishing You Well

Six Inch Square Card

Making cards with minimal effort but big wow factor is one of my goals every time I work on a card.  This card was quite simple to do using the Cricut Art Philosophy Cartridge and the CTMH Say it in Style stamp set.

It is a 6" White Daisy square card base. On top of that is a Dutch Blue piece of cardstock cut with the AP cartridge using Shape 10 and the Font layer with the shift button activated. The Outdoor Denim piece was cut at 4 1/4" and the White Daisy piece at 4" - both using the standard Shape 10 design. To top off the layers of cardstock, I cut one more piece of Dutch Blue at 4" using the same shape's decorative layer with the shift activated again.

The pearl gems add a nice touch of bling to the card.  I think it all works well together.  And best of all it is pretty fast because the Cricut does most of the work!  :-)

CTMH Roxie Paper and Love Life Stamp Set

If you have looked at my blog at all this week, you will recognize the sketch by Ann Bacon for Frosted Designs.  I couldn't help myself and had to do another one! It was a lot of fun using up some scraps from one of my favorite paper packs, Roxie.  It will no longer be available after July.  The new Close To My Heart Idea Book/Catalog comes out August 1st.  Because they keep patterned paper packs for either 6 or 12 months, Roxie will not be extended.
One of my favorite card shapes and sizes is 6 x 6 because it is also the simplest!  Cut a 12 x 12 in half and then fold. Easy Peasy. The sentiment image was stamped with black ink on a 6 x 6 Tulip cardstock base.

Old Man In the Moon Wood Veneer

Recently, I ordered some wood veneer shapes from a start up business which advertised on Facebook.  The  service was speedy and I can't wait to share with you how to go about viewing their other designs.  As soon as I find out how non-Facebook group members can tap into this little treasure trove of wood veneers, I will post it.

Day 2 of Frosted Designs Card Challenge #21

Yesterday was the reveal day for the new Frosted Designs card sketch challenge.  I loved Ann's sketch so much that it was impossible to make just one card!  On this version, you can see I swapped out the center circle for an awesome stamped star. This set is retired from CTMH, but it has great images that emboss really well, so I am glad to have it in my collection.  Both the red and blue stars were heat embossed after stamping with Versamark ink. The white stars were cut with the Cricut.  All papers are from CTMH.  The red tinsel ribbon is from Michael's.

Dots and Stripes Birthday Card

Echo Park 6 x 6 Dots & Stripes Paper

  Polka dots remind me of summer.  They are cheerful and usually bright.  And always fun!   This paper pad has dots on one side and stripes on the other.  It was hard to choose which side to use, so I used both!

Black Chipboard Frame Backed with Stamped Paper

The wide striped paper was a good surface to stamp the sentiment from CTMH upon. I punched some circles for the top and bottom of the frame to add more interest to the focal point. The furry fiber on the side adds a piece of nice texture, without adding any bulk.

This is an easy card to make and went together very quickly.  I might make one in every color from the paper pad! :-)

Thinking Of You - Stamping On Vellum Layered Card

 Vellum seems so elegant to use on a hand-crafted card.  I love how what is layered underneath seems extra special.  This card is very simple to create, but in person still has a wow factor.

Vellum Adhered On The Fold Side

This card uses a 12" x 6" piece of cardstock, a 6" piece of vellum and a white cardstock diecut made with the Silhouette Cameo.   I spritzed the diecut with a mixture of CTMH Crystal Blue reinker, Create A Shade Pearl Paint and water to give it a bit of a blue tinge.  To make it easy to adhere, I ran it through the Xyron and made it into a gigantic sticker. This was then adhered to the card front.  The vellum was layered on top with a thin strip of vellum adhesive after stamping.

The image was stamped with Versamark ink and embossed with white powder.  I used a white fiber (retired CTMH) on the fold side and tied it in a bow.

Even though this card is layered, it is not at all bulky.  The fiber adds a bit of dimension but would not interfere with any of the automatic postage sorting machines.  No additional postage would be necessary if it were a standard size.  Of course I didn't think of that until after I made it. :-)

Winter Joy Birthday Card

It may appear that I'm on a Martha Stewart Around the Page Punch kick.  Ummm, maybe so.  Here is another 6" x 6" card made with the Flower Shower punches.  I glued all the little flowers from the punches onto the 5" x 5" cardstock center.  The following picture of the inside sentiment shows the 3-dimensionality on the front a little better.

The sentiment on the front of the card is from CTMH's new Winter Joy stamp set. Aside from the Martha Stewart punches all other supplies are CTMH.
