10+ Cards Made with the Same Stamp/Die Set

Hello! This is a recap, with many pictures of the cards I created for Level 2 of the Altenew Educator Certification Program. My personal challenge was to use one stamp set for all ten courses. Here they are, and my shiny new badge which shows that I passed Level 1.

It always feels great to be able to use items several times over. It is very satisfying to stretch stamps and dies with different techniques. This makes the part of me that wants to be a mindful spender very happy.

Craft My Stash: Marbling With Altenew Ink Pads

Marbled Paper Made With Ink Pads

One of my 2023 goals is to work through my craft stash and use the things I have or to let them go if they no longer serve my needs. For the past few days, I have been playing with ink pads and glossy papers to make marbled paper. Marbling is a very fun, unpredictable way to create card backgrounds, art journal or junk journal pages, or to add unique pops of color to scrapbook layouts. This post is mainly about my results when marbling with Altenew ink pads. It is also my submission for the AECP Level 2 course, With A Twist. The twist is that I have not heard of anyone using regular (not Distress) dye-ink pads for marbling. And the bonus twist is the addition of the pigment ink pad, Aqua Bronze Gold, and Gilding Flakes, too!

Card Made From Marbled Paper Using Altenew Ink Pads

Originally, my intention was to only use an old-nearly-dried gold pigment ink pad to add some metallic elements with the Altenew inks. But I found some other fun things to try as well. The video below explains the process and the pitfalls of my experimentation.

The card pictured below is made with one of the pages that I said, in the video, was going to end up in the trash. Using a die to cut out the circled 'hello' brought life to the paper and popping it up on another not-very-interesting piece of marbled paper made a successful pairing. The glossy cardstock came from my stash. (Yay!)

The following two pictures show more detail of the marbling done on photo paper. It is Epson Premium Photo Paper Glossy, which I purchased at Target. The paper is 4" x 6". That means the card base size will either need to be modified, the piece will need to be cut down, or there will be uneven borders. All of these options are a great way to explore your creativity and see what is pleasing to your eye.

The sparkle that the gold adds to the paper is an unexpected treat. However, the blue-purple piece without any metallic highlights, pictured below, is also beautiful.

Lastly, this card is an example of a smaller-size card. It is a mini-slimline, measuring 6.25" x 3.25". It is top folding with the base cut at 6.25 x 6.5" and folded in half at the 3.25" mark. The popped-up shaker element is 6" x 3". The floral images for the shaker windows and the embellishment blossom are from the Build-A-Flower: Primrose Layering stamp and die set. The sentiment was cut using a Silhouette electronic die cutter.

Spring Update - Cards, Gifts, Rag Quilts

This is just a quick Spring update with a few pictures of the cards, gifts, and rag quilts I have made since March.

Mask made for a 2-year-old grandchild

My sweet little granddaughter needed a mask to fly on an airplane from Seattle to Phoenix in May. Winnie the Pooh has about the same size face as she does. Since she wasn't here to model it, I had to use Winnie.

MJ's Messenger Bag Pattern by Annie

If you are looking to make a bag for yourself or as a gift. I highly recommend the patterns by Annie Unrein. She has thorough directions with good videos to show some of the steps to assembling them. I have made several of her bags and every one of them has been well received by the recipient.

Double Oven Mitt, Hot Pads, and Card

Kitchen linens are fun to make. Usually people are happy to get new ones to replace their stained or worn out hot pads, etc. My niece is a Chemist and I thought she might enjoy these fabrics for a new set of hotpads and oven mitts. I really like the one on the right because it hangs over the oven door handle and is great for removing casseroles from the oven.

Copic Colored Baby Shower Card

The stamped images on this card are from a retired Close to My Heart set. I love how easy it is to color these open images with Copics.

Fleece and Flannel Baby Rag Quilt

The two rag quilts are made with flannel. The top one also has a fleece back. The purple one is made with different Shannon Fabrics - Minky, Cuddle, Dimples and hand-dyed flannel. Both quilts were cut with Accuquilt steel dies. (If you click on the link, it doesn't cost you anything extra but I may receive a small commission if you make a purchase from their site.)

Queen and Co shaker card

My dear granddaughter needed a quilt for daycare. I thought she might enjoy a rag quilt to play with as she avoided sleep during naptime on her little cot.

Minky and Flannel Toddler Size Rag Quilt

The Cuddle fabrics are so warm and soft. It is messy to work with but feels so lovely that it is worth the extra vacuuming and lint collection! I usually throw the fabric in the dryer when it enters the house. After cutting it, with either a rotary cutter or an Accuquilt die, I shake it out over a rug and then run it through the dryer again to collect the lint. My vacuum is the kind that collects the dirt in a container that gets dumped out. This is much better than quickly filling vacuum cleaner bags! It is necessary to vacuum frequently!

It seems that there is never enough time to make all of the things that are rattling around in my head, but at least this is a start. And these things all found good homes.
Thank you for visiting!

Let It Snow! Shaker Card

Frosted Designs Card Sketch Challenge # 9
Today marks another Frosted Designs Tuesday Card Sketch Challenge!  Thank you for stopping by to see my contribution as part of the design team.  Please visit Frosted Designs to see the other designer's cards and to play along for a chance to win a great prize!  You have almost two weeks to create a card following the great sketch below by Diana Gonzalez!

Diana Gonzalez's Sketch
This sketch made me think of a shaker card.  Sandwiched in-between two layers of acetate (transparency film) I poured a mixture of craft-supply "snow".
The "snow" is made with Flower Soft Polar White and Stampendous Silver Crushed Glass Glitter.  I added the glitter because it was heavier then the Flower Soft and I thought it may make the card "shake" better.

Looking through the window of snow to the stamped sentiment
The paper diecuts are from a few Silhouette Cameo shapes, a Martha Stewart Snowflake Punch and a Martha Stewart Snowflake Edger Punch.  I cut out the center of the two large snowflakes for the window using a circle template shape with the Coluzzle.  How I wish that hadn't been discontinued!  I am hoarding a couple of the blades to use only for special occasions, like this card. :-)

Snowflakes layered under a CTMH Shimmer Brad
The papers are all from CTMH:  Crystal Blue, Grey Flannel, White Daisy and Wonderland B & T.  The inks are Crystal Blue and Black.

First and Second Generation Stamping using CTMH Snowflakes Stamp Set
The snowflakes on the inside of the card were embellished with Silver Glitz Glitter Gel.  On the front of the card there is a Spellbinders snowflake that I cut out of a sheet of double sided adhesive and sprinkled glitter all over it.  That is layered under a bunch of paper snowflakes shown in the photograph below.

Lots of layers of snowflakes!

CTMH Clear Sparkles adorn many of the Snowflakes and Brads

CTMH Joyful Jar and Martha Stewart's Flower Shower Punch

6" x 6" card using all CTMH products except punches

The fun part of this card is on the inside.  I stamped the jar twice on transparency film with black Stazon ink.  After cutting out both jars, I placed the cutouts from the Flower Shower punches on top of the back jar and glued the top jar around the edges.  This is the general idea of a "shaker card", but without the bulk of foam tape.

Of course, I ended up using foam tape anyway, because I wanted the jar to be popped out from the card base.
The 4 You sentiment was also stamped with Stazon.  The stamp is from CTMH's Remarkable Wreath set. (CTMH C1473)

In addition to the Martha Stewart Punch Around the Page set and the other items already mentioned, I used the following CTMH products:

  • Joyful Jar stamp set - the word Sunshine, the jar, and the small flower
  • Token Alphabet stamp set - the solid background and the polka dot background stamped on the canvas badge button and the  round 'flowers' on the Foundry Pin Clips
  • Fill In the Blank stamp set - the small butterfly was stamped on some retired CTMH B & T paper
  • Ribbons are from the Honey and Olive Mini-Medley Accents Collections
  • The Olive tab turned-into-planter is also from the Mini-Medley Accent Collection.
  • Bitty Sparkles are on the butterfly and used for the antennae.
  • White Daisy paper flower inked with Sunkiss Yellow.
  • The blush square is cut 5" x 5" and placed on a 6" x 6" Daisy White base. The textured cardstock is retired from CTMH.
