Boxes and Butterflies With Cricut Artiste Cartridge

Butterfly Box Cut at 3 Inches - Random Stamped Cardstock

A couple of people requested that I make a video showing how to assemble the boxes that can be made with the Cricut Artiste cartridge.  Someone else asked about the butterflies on the cartridge.  It seemed like a good idea to merge the ideas and produce one video to cover both topics.  So here it is:

Here are some of the still photos of the boxes from the video:

Using the Negative Space from Cut Images

CAS Butterfly Card

Sometimes it is hard to throw away the scraps from cut images.  This butterfly was one such cut for me.  It is about 3 inches tall and I knew it would look great with the Watermelon cardstock behind it.  After looking at it for a couple of minutes I decided to stamp it with one of the Diverse Background stamps using CTMH's Archival black ink.  I layered it with Topiary and White Daisy cardstock along with a little more Watermelon.  The final touches were the hand drawn antennae and a bit of bling.

Negative Space Cut Image - CTMH Cricut Artiste Butterfly
It is a simple card and only took a couple of minutes to make.  But, I think it is very pretty. I hope you like it, too.

I hope you have had a restful weekend with some time to create something.  It rejuvenates my soul to work with crafty things so I am now ready for a busy week.
Thank you for visiting!

Christmas In July - Gigantic Ornaments

Huge Paper Ornaments Hanging From Doorway

There is nothing like big objects to make a bold statement.  These ornaments are almost a foot tall!  Hard not to notice these.  Even my husband saw them.  Here is a video if you prefer to watch about the project instead of read about it:

The written instructions are posted below.

CTMH Cricut Artiste Cut Shapes Hanging from Mono-filament Thread
This has to be one of the easiest Christmas decorations that I have ever made.  The Cricut did almost all of the work.  I just glued the lace/filigree layer on top of the coordinating shapes and they were finished! All of the ornaments were cut at 11.5 inches.  These shapes are on pages 53 and 79 of the Artiste Handbook.  This measurement is the finished size from the top to bottom, not the width. The "Merry Christmas" is on page 80 and was cut at 5 inches.

A simple variation, and also very easy to do, is to cover the top layer with glitter.  I used Glitz Glitter Gel on one and Prisma Glitter on another.  This is a great way to add some fun and easy sparkle to your decorations!

Ornaments Hung From Patio Door Frame
I loved how beautiful this Merry Christmas cut turned out, so I made an extra one (cut at 4") for a card.  After cutting it out of Cranberry cardstock, I ran it face-down through the Xyron to make it completely covered in adhesive.  Then I sprinkled it with Prisma glitter.  It looks so pretty - and sparkly!  It looks lovely layered on Ponderosa Pine on top of Cranberry cardstock.

5 x 7 Card
Thank you for joining my Christmas in July celebration!  If you would like to see the previous projects, there was one posted every Friday this month.

Have a great day!

La Belle Vie Gift Box and Card

5 Inch Tall Box With Card Under Bow
This gorgeous paper is perfect for so many beautiful projects; it is hard to choose just one to make.  As it turned out, making a box, an envelope and a card took care of the dilemma of having to decide on only one thing.  Starting in August, CTMH is adding some temporary cardstock colors with the new B & T paper packets.  Two of the colors, La Belle Vie Mauve and La Belle Vie Pink, are exclusive to the the La Belle Vie packet.  I used one of the new exclusive colors from this packet for the top and bottom of the box.
Petal Card and Envelope Cut at 4 Inches
There are three different double-sided patterned papers in the packet.  I love using double-sided papers for envelopes. The inside of the card has a 2 inch Bamboo cardstock scallop circle layered inside for a small message and signature.  This makes a perfect gift-enclosure sized card.  I stamped the bee from the Jardin set onto the patterned paper with Smokey Plum ink for the envelope.

CTMH Cricut Artiste Cartridge Page 40 Card
When making folded paper projects, it is a good idea to use a bone folder for crisp folds.  It is easy to see where to make the folds because the Cricut provides score lines/cuts. The petal card looks complicated, but it is simple to overlap the folds, which in turn holds it closed.

B & T Strip Used as Accent Around Lid
The box is on the same page of the Cricut Handbook (page 40) as the card and envelope.  The top and bottom are the same piece, so two of these are cut for this box.  After having the Cricut cut them at five inches out of plain cardstock, I random stamped them with various stamps from the Jardin set.  After assembling the lid, I adhered the accent strip from one of the patterned paper sheets around the perimeter.

Seam Binding Colored With Smokey Plum Reinker and Water
CTMH has a seam binding which can be colored with ink to match the project.  I used a piece of this and tied a bow when it dried after coloring it with re-inker mixed with a little bit of water.  The black metal bow clip is from the new Boutique Assortment. It made the perfect embellishment to decorate the seam binding bow.

Here is a video with some tips and suggestions about the projects posted on this page:

The new catalog will go live on August 1, 2012.  At that time, all of these products will be available!

CTMH Cricut Artiste - Card and Envelope on Page 34

Card Cut at 5 1/2"
Yes, I make a lot of cards!  It is nice to have them on hand when needed.  Going through the new Artiste Handbook has been fun because I have found so many beautiful cards to make.  Some of the cards are for attaching to a gift or enclosing in a package, but many are mailable. This card and envelope can be made standard size and will not require extra postage when mailed.

CTMH Elemental B & T Paper with Colonial White Cardstock
The Thanks sentiment was stamped onto Colonial White cardstock that had been cut using the Accent 4 shape on page 35.  I cut it at 3" and then cut it again at 3 1/4" on the patterned paper to layer it.  Sunset ink was used on a sponge around the edge of the Colonial White after stamping the image.

If you have any questions about this card or any of the cut shapes on the new CTMH Artiste Cricut cartridge, please leave me a comment.  Thank you for visiting!

More Artiste Cards - Page 44 of the Cricut Handbook

Card and Cover Cut at 5 1/4"
Here is another gorgeous cut file from the new CTMH Cricut Artiste Collection.  This is the card and cover on page 44.  I cut it twice because the Dotty paper is double sided and I wanted to show each side with a different color of cardstock as the insert.  The top one is White Daisy.

You can use any double sided patterned paper and get a new and gorgeous look just by flipping it over.  To dress it up even more you could cut the insert out of patterned paper and use it as a mat, as pictured above. Cut a piece of plain card stock 1/4" smaller to layer on top

This insert is Colonial White, both cards were stamped with Slate ink

Card Week Continues - Artiste Cartridge Page 58

Insert With Cover
Sometimes a card can be made extra-special by making it interactive.  This cut file from the CTMH Artiste Cricut cartridge does that by including the beautiful detail on the card. The window frame on the slide in open envelope was the perfect place to align the stamped sentiment.

CTMH Stella B & T Paper
The card and cover were both cut at 5 1/2".

CTMH Cricut Artiste Page 46 Thank You Cards

Today's post is about one card style made with the same papers and the same stamp, but with three different looks based on the layering of the cuts from the new Artiste cartridge.  I used regular White Daisy or Colonial White cardstock and the Dotty B & T from CTMH.

Belly Band Removed  and Pictured in Front of  Layered Insert
The ink used on the above card is CTMH's new Slate color.  It is a warm gray.  The ink on the cards below is Lagoon.  Each of the base cards and belly bands were cut at 5 inches.  The layers are cut at a variety of sizes in 1/4 inch increments starting at 3 3/4".
CTMH A1125 Thanks Stamped Image
The labels layered on top of the bands are 3 inches, once again with incremental cuts for layering.   These are all "Accent 4" on the cartridge.  I used the ones on pages 33, 35 and 36 for the three different cards.
This shows the belly band open
The band fastens in the back with a slotted tab cut by the Cricut.  It is most visible on the right-hand side of the above picture.

Using the CTMH Cricut Artiste Cartridge - What Size Cuts To Make?

CTMH Artiste Cartridge Purse On Page 31
As more people are introduced to the world of Cricut, I thought it might be helpful to offer a tutorial on how to know what sizes to dial on the machine for intended results.  This video explains how to know the orientation of the designs in relation to the cutting blade.  It is intended for people who want to put the cartridge in and cut without making adjustments in a software program beforehand.

I show examples of all fourteen of the cuts from one page of designs.  The same information can be used on the other nearly 700 designs that are part of this cartridge.

Here are some of the cuts from the video shown as completed projects.

Please let me know if you have any questions about using either of the CTMH Cricut cartridges.

Frosted Designs Friday "Only Patterned Paper" Challenge / Christmas In July - Gift

Recipe Stand Holds 4 x 6 Inch Recipe Cards
When I saw this photo stand, over a year ago, I knew that it would make a perfect recipe card holder and stand.  Extra sleeves can be purchased and it is easy to add them to the stand.  This seemed like the perfect gift for anyone who likes to cook or is just starting out on their cooking journey.  It was fortuitous that Frosted Designs was having a "no cardstock" challenge this week because I need to be pushed out of my cardstock-is-part-of-everything-I-do-zone.

7 Gypsies Photo Stand
The easy to assemble display stand is about a foot tall, so it can sit on the kitchen counter and fits under a cabinet.  I cut three layers of Florentine B & T with the Cricut at varying sizes.  Because of this, the holes do not align.  That did not matter because the other layers covered the holes, except for the top layer.  I strategically placed the "Family" and the crocheted flowers to cover them.  Once all the layers were together, I punched new holes using one of the plastic photo/recipe sleeves to align them properly.

Stamping On Seam Binding Ribbon

Stamped Ribbon

This card uses one of my favorite combinations - red with kraft cardstock.  In this case, the red is CTMH's new Ruby color dye ink.  I stamped the Pirouette image directly onto the kraft card and then stamped it again onto Colonial White.  Since I already had the stamp inky, I thought I would try stamping directly on the seam binding ribbon.  It has a sort of tie-dye look about it. Or maybe a little bit like damask?

5 x 5 Square Card
The sentiment is from another new set which will be released on August 1st.  It is called Words of Comfort.  I know I will use it more often than I want to, because it means someone I care about is hurting. However, it will be a welcome addition to my stamp collection because it is so hard to find the right words to say sometimes.

Thanks for stopping by today!  I appreciate it!  Btw, this morning I am having dental surgery so if you try calling me today, I won't be able to answer the phone!

Cricut Artiste Word Balloons Cards

6 Cards Fit In The Mini-Magazine Holder
Monday, I posted about the box pictured above.  It is an adorable, pared down file folder holder as part of the popular office-supply trend that is a big part of scrapbooking.  You could make a really cute Heidi Swapp inspired set of folders for Memory Files.  Or you could make a bunch of cards and stuff it with them. :-)  The original post is here, btw.  These cards are all mail-able without extra postage - except maybe the one with the ribbon.  It smashes down to fit in an envelope without any problems, though it may need a little extra postage due to the bulk.

Artiste Owl  On Page 76 - Accent 3

So, you can see that I made a bunch of cards to coordinate with the holder.  Each of them used a different stamp from the Word Balloons set that comes with the Artiste Collection.  There are two arrow stamps that I did not use from the set.  You will see those soon on another project.

Artiste Mustache Page 67 - Accent 2
All of the cut shapes are either popped up on foam tape or in the case of the word balloons, mounted on their corresponding Dimensional Elements.  The sizes to cut are printed on the front of the package of the Dimensional Elements and also on the carrier sheet for the stamps.  Because the stamps are acrylic, it is easy to stamp in the Cricut cut shape.

Artiste Bride Page 61 Accent 2 (Shift)
I filled in the hollow on the bride's tummy by placing a piece of Stella paper behind her.  The main reason was so that I could put a piece of foam tape there to offer more support.  Otherwise, she is see through right there.  It sort of looks like a bouquet outline.  The groom is quite dapper looking and the welded words on this page are beautiful!

Artiste Dress-form and Dress Page 41 Accent 1 and Accent 2 (shift)
Sewing has been a part of paper crafting forever.  Several of the shapes on page 41 keep to that theme.  In addition to the shapes on the card above, there is a spool, thread to layer on it, a pair of scissors and a hanger.  The non-sewing specific items using the same button are the letter Q, a card and wrapper, and a cute 3-D purse.
Artiste Cat Page 76 Card (Shift)
This key is called Eek!  The cat shares it with the owl pictured on the first card and several other great Halloween shapes.  I added the Bitty Sparkles to make a collar for this lovely little cat.

Artiste Robot/Alien Page 68 Accent 2
As soon as I saw this little guy, I thought of the Durables Studs.  They seemed like perfect "eyes", especially with the red Sparkles.  The "Hugs & Kisses" sentiment from the Word Balloons stamp set seemed like a quirky, unexpected choice.  It made me chuckle when I put these two together.  It also could be that I was chocolate deprived and I wasn't quite thinking straight!

Frosted Designs Final Card Sketch Challenge

This last year has been a great one for me in regards to my papercrafting.  I had the wonderful opportunity to be a part of an amazing group of women who make up the Frosted Designs Card Sketch Challenge Team.  All good things must come to an end, so the saying goes...  This will be our last card sketch challenge.  Heather created another fabulous sketch for us to follow.   I hope you are inspired by it to play along with us this final time! Please link up your card on Frosted Designs website here.

Card Sketch by Heather Adams
This time around, I stayed very true to the sketch.  Heather's sketch makes a beautiful clean and simple card or if you rough it up a bit, like I did, you can make it shabby chic. The fun thing about sketches is that you can do anything you want to make it your own!  I love to see how people interpret the sketches and put their own twist on things.  Have fun with it!  Don't forget to link your card up at Frosted Designs.

Artiste File Box and Folder

Cut from CTMH Cricut Artiste Accent 3 on Page 47

The new Cricut Artiste Cartridge will be released in a couple of weeks so I am trying to cut as many things as possible beforehand to be able to answer questions about it!  This is the Dotty paper from the National Scrapbooking promotion in May.  It made such a cute miniature magazine holder/file folder box!  It is 6 inches tall at the highest point and 4 3/4" deep.  The file folder (Accent 2) is a perfect fit at 5" by 4 1/2" (when folded and measured at the tab.)

Cut at 6 Inches - Standard 5 1/2" x 4 1/4" Cards Fit Perfectly

I cut the label holder at 1/2" (Accent 4 on page 47.)  After realizing the size of this adorable holder, I decided to make a set of  six different cards to go inside.  They were all made with the Artiste Collection.  I will post those on Wednesday.  But here is a sneak peak of one of them:
