Lawn Fawn Interactive Card and Machine Embroidered Gifts

.
Lawn Fawn Magic Picture Changer Card

My sweet grandbaby recently turned two-years-old. These pictures show some of the things that I made to send to her. It was fun to make the Lawn Fawn Interactive Card. This is the first time I used this die and it was very easy to assemble.  The machine embroidered things were also easy to make. I love machine embroidery for lots of reasons but my favorite is that because while the machine is humming along, I can work on other things, for example, coloring the pieces for this card.

Tips for interactive cards

  • Use sturdy cardstock.
  • Anti-static powder will make the paper move easier
  • Try to assemble as much as possible before using adhesive to check if it works properly
  • If you make a sample, label and keep the pieces to help for future assemblies

Gifts for Toddlers

The following designs are from Scissortail Stitches, which is an offshoot of OESD.  The puzzle is done completely in the hoop. I used some scraps to make a little bag to store the eight pieces of the puzzle.

Both of the towels are made with a bath and a hand towel, each. The designs are machine embroidered applique on the hand towel. After the design is done sewing out then the hand towel is sewn to the bath towel. It is a very simple and useful project.

Stenciling Card Fronts

If you are anything like me, you want to maximize your supplies and tools by getting as much use out of them as you can. I love stencils because of their versatility. Mainly, I use them for art journaling. They are fun for scrapbooking, too. Some stencils are scaled specifically for use on cards. However, those that are smaller or larger can, of course, be used for card fronts, too! There are thousands of stencils commercially available.  You can also make your own!  Whatever your style and color palette, you can choose what speaks to you when stenciling card fronts.

These cards use the same stencil with two different colorways and styles.  It is fun to see what you can create by changing the colors. Do you have favorite products to use with stencils? Inking is probably the easiest way to apply color to paper.  For color and texture, Tonic Studios Nuvo Mousse is very easy to use - and to clean up.  Glitter paste is another fun and easy way to add both color and texture. Spraying ink, mica mist, flowable paint, and anything else that can go through a spray bottle are all great mediums to try.  Acrylic or watercolor paint can be applied directly to paper or applied over other media.  Watercolor paper is a great base for wet media. I use washi tape to hold down the stencil. Painters tape will work to hold the stencil in place, too. If you have a bit of time, it is a relaxing activity to doodle with markers in the open areas of the stencil.  For example, use the spaces to Zentangle.

New Toys With Old Supplies - Altenew Radial Hearts Cover Die

Altenew Die Used to Emboss and Deboss Cardstock
The internet knows when I have been shopping. Every time I click on a news site or to enter the HGTV Dream House giveaway, there are advertisements for new and wonderful products that the internet thinks I should buy.  So I caved and bought some new toys. But, I am going to use them with old supplies.  That is how I sorta, kinda justified buying some Altenew and Lawn Fawn dies.

One of the things I discovered as I was playing with the new toys is that I could emboss and deboss the design for a really fun effect.  This is an added bonus to the intended purpose.  After embossing the pink shape, I cut a scalloped heart using Scrapbook.com's Umbrella Crafts nested die. The "Hello" was cut twice. Once with white cardstock and once on black with a double-sided adhesive so that glitter would stick to it. The card top is popped off the base with dimensional foam tape.
Pictured below are two cards side-by-side to illustrate the die cut versus the embossing/debossing.  The "hugs" card is a super simple card to make!  It is glitter paper cut with the cover die and layered on white cardstock. So pretty with almost no effort!

The tiny white hearts are leftovers from another card that I will post later this week. The "hugs" die is from Lawn Fawn. I cut it out twice using kraft and white cardstock to give it a little more depth.

The red glitter paper is from my stash. It is awesome because it doesn't flake!  Glitter is one of those things that gets everywhere and is difficult to corral. This paper is nice because it didn't add to the mess and still has lots of shimmer and shine.

Thanks for stopping by today! I will have more projects made with this and other dies later this week.
Here is a list of supplies of currently available items if you are interested in going shopping, too!  There is no additional cost to you, they are listed here as a convenience.

Sizzix has a newer version of the Vagabond. I use the old one. The new one has metal parts inside and will stop if you try to overload it.

Scrapbook.com Haul To Replace or Supplement Water Damaged Items

Even though we moved to a house that is less than half the size of our previous one, I felt like I needed to buy some new things when I discovered that a bunch of my stuff had been ruined in a faulty storage unit that leaked.  Scrapbook.com is having a sale on stamping items through Thursday.  I'm going to post the affiliate links in case you want to check out what I got. There is no extra charge to you if you purchase anything. It is posted for your convenience. Let me know if you have any of these things. Consider linking any art you have made with them. I would love to see what other people have been doing!

In the next few days, I will post a review of their inks. Also, I am going to do a comparison of inks for multi-layered stamping. And I can not wait to try Altenew's cover dies!  I have lots of ideas about ways to use them.
Thanks for visiting!
