Stained Glass Medallion Cards

This card came about because I wanted to make the medallion from the Stained Glass Medallion die set look as close to stained glass as possible. Using a high gloss glue over the ink-blended cardstock gives a shiny, almost glass-like look.
 
Ink blending within the parameters of the shapes keeps the focus on the pretty die-cut design. Two layers of die-cuts are adhered together to form a well for the shiny glue to be poured into. 
The final touch was to add some of the shrink plastic die cuts as embellishments. The photo, below, is an auditioned cardstock background color. It is as good a choice as the green pictured above. Color is a personal choice, there is no right or wrong.

The second card is the same process without a die-cut sentiment or additional embellishments. Using black cardstock for the die-cuts to be framed upon makes for a bold card front. It looks almost like wall art.


Both the Glossy Accents from Ranger and Spellbinders Glaze 'N Glue work equally well in creating the shiny stained glass look. They also work well for adhering the die-cut pieces in place once the surface is dry.

Christmas in July - Countdown to Christmas Advent Card

On the one hand, I love Christmas so I think it is great to get a headstart on crafting for the holidays as soon as Christmas is over. On the other hand, I feel a bit overwhelmed if I haven't started crafting holiday gifts and cards by this time of the year. Bearing that in mind, I just made my first Christmas item for this year.  It is a Countdown to Christmas Advent Card.

The idea behind this card was actually my 14-year old's as she was watching me stamp, emboss and die cut. She suggested turning the card into an Advent Calendar.  I've made many Advent Calendars over the years and here are some posts with a variety of different kinds of creations, here, here, here, and here. The last post has a list of activities that a child or family could do on each day as they count their way to Christmas.

Tim Holtz Sizzix die for numbers and Christmas Greetings Stamps from Hero Arts

This card was considerably more complicated than most of the ones I have been making this month. However, it was fun! And it really did not take a huge amount of time... just some searching for numbers to die-cut that were the right size.  It would have been easy to use the Cricut or Silhouette, but I had my Vagabond out and wanted to use that if I could.  It turns out the Sizzix Tim Holtz Thinlet Mixed Media set pictured above was a perfect match.  Adhering 4" wide strips of double-sided adhesive to cardstock made it very easy to cut, peel, and stick the numbers to each of the little doors.

Free Hugs

Sizzix - Framelits Die with Clear Acrylic Stamp Set - Sending Hugs
You know those moments when you see something that you just need to have because it strikes you that it is perfect for you or someone you know?  Well, this stamp and die set fit that situation for me.  It is a really cute set and is easy to color. I dusted off the Tombows after I masked the cacti and hoped they hadn't dried out in the almost two years of neglect in storage.  The glittery die cut piece was stamped with a glue stamp pad. Then I poured three different colors of glitter on it and matted it onto the card front.  The two little cutout hearts glued to twine seemed like a rustic, yet sweet, touch. This is a mailable, standard-sized card at 4.25" x 5.5".

It is perfect for making your die cuts into stickers by applying the double-sided adhesive to the cardstock and running it through your die-cutter.

Scrapbook.com Haul To Replace or Supplement Water Damaged Items


Even though we moved to a house that is less than half the size of our previous one, I felt like I needed to buy some new things when I discovered that a bunch of my stuff had been ruined in a faulty storage unit that leaked.  Scrapbook.com is having a sale on stamping items through Thursday.  I'm going to post the affiliate links in case you want to check out what I got.
